UAE Launches Accident Free Day Campaign

UAE Announces Accident Free Day: Drivers Can Remove 4 Black Points by Driving Safely on August 25 – يوم بلا حوادث

The UAE’s Accident Free Day campaign is back, giving motorists a chance to remove four black points from their driving record by avoiding accidents and following traffic rules on Monday, August 25, 2025, the first day of the new school year.

Launched by the Federal Traffic Council, the initiative aims to promote safer driving habits as over a million students return to schools across the country. This day is expected to be one of the busiest traffic days of the year. Drivers who commit no traffic violations or accidents on August 25 will see four black points removed from their record by September 15.

Encouraging Safe Driving

The campaign reminds motorists of key safety rules:

  • Always wear a seatbelt
  • Respect speed limits
  • Maintain a safe distance from other vehicles
  • Avoid using mobile phones while driving

Last year, more than 300,000 drivers pledged to take part in the Accident Free Day initiative, showing strong public support for road safety.

Brigadier Engineer Hussein Al Harthi, Chairman of the Federal Traffic Council at the Ministry of Interior, emphasized that the campaign is crucial for reducing road accidents during high-traffic periods.

“The first day of school is a critical time. Our priority is the safety of students and all road users. This campaign encourages positive driving behaviours that can save lives,” he said.

How to Participate in Accident Free Day

To join the campaign, drivers can visit the Ministry of Interior’s official website, log in, and sign the online pledge.

Understanding Black Points in the UAE

Black points are penalties given for serious traffic violations. Accumulating 24 black points in 12 months can lead to license suspension. Penalties can include fines, vehicle impoundment, and daily storage fees for released cars.

Raising Awareness During Back-to-School Rush

Road safety experts stress the importance of extra caution during the start of the school year. Dr. Mustafa Al Dah, an Emirati road safety researcher, said:

“Accident Free Day is a timely reminder for parents, teachers, school bus drivers, and all motorists to remain alert. Even rare incidents, such as accidents in school car parks, can have tragic consequences.”

With traffic congestion expected to rise, the Accident Free Day campaign highlights the UAE’s ongoing commitment to making roads safer for everyone.
