UAE Confirms AI as Core Subject Across Public Schools Starting 2025
The UAE Ministry of Education has confirmed a major curriculum reform, with Artificial Intelligence (AI) officially becoming a core subject across all public school grades beginning in the 2025–26 academic year.
The initiative includes deploying 1,000 AI-trained teachers to ensure smooth delivery of the new subject, making the UAE one of the first countries to embed AI into mainstream education from kindergarten to Grade 12.
Key Focus Areas of UAE’s AI Curriculum
The AI subject will be built around seven core learning areas:
- AI fundamentals – introducing concepts in a simplified, age-appropriate way
- Data and algorithms – understanding how machines process information
- Software applications – exposure to real-world tools and coding basics
- Ethical awareness – highlighting responsible and safe AI use
- Problem-solving skills – applying AI for everyday challenges
- Innovation and project design – encouraging creativity through AI projects
- Policy and community engagement – linking technology to society and governance
Each module will be adapted to different grade levels, ensuring progressive and age-appropriate learning.
National Proficiency Testing for Grades 4–11
Alongside AI integration, a new standardized national proficiency test will be introduced for Grades 4 to 11.
- Subjects tested: Arabic, English, Mathematics
- Initial rollout: 26,000 students
- Purpose: To identify learning gaps, strengthen teaching strategies, and measure academic performance nationwide
Preserving National Identity from Kindergarten
The Ministry has also confirmed a mandatory cultural curriculum for private kindergartens, which will include:
- Arabic language
- Islamic Education
- Social concepts related to family, community, and geography
This step aims to strengthen national identity and cultural awareness from an early age.
School Timings Remain Unchanged
The Ministry dismissed recent social media rumors about changes in school hours. Official school hours remain the same for the new academic year.
Academic Year 2025–26 Start Date
The new academic year begins on Monday, August 25, 2025, across public and private schools. With AI integration, national testing, and cultural studies, the reforms mark one of the most significant transformations in the UAE’s education sector.
