Dubai RTA Expands 103 km of Internal Roads Across 8 Areas

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has completed and launched several internal road projects covering 103 kilometres across eight residential and industrial areas. The projects aim to improve traffic flow, cut travel times, and enhance road safety.

Areas Covered

  • Completed: Al Khawaneej 2, Jebel Ali Industrial Area 1
  • Under construction: Nad Al Sheba 1, 3 and 4, Al Awir 1, Wadi Al Amardi, Al Warqa’a

Completed Works

Al Khawaneej 2 (Tolerance District)

  • 6 km of internal roads
  • 765 parking spaces
  • 178 lighting poles
  • Dedicated cycling track
  • Connections to Amman Street and surrounding roads

Jebel Ali Industrial Area 1

  • 27 km of roads built and upgraded
  • Roundabout replaced with signalised junction at First Al Khail Street and Street 23
  • 7 new roundabouts for heavy vehicle flow
  • Road capacity: 3,000 vehicles per hour per road
  • 42 km of new lighting

Roads Under Construction

Al Awir 1

  • 16.5 km of roads, including 5 km inside Mohammed Bin Rashid Housing project
  • 7.5 km dual carriageway linking Emirates Road with Al Awir 1
  • New entry and exit points doubling capacity from 1,500 to 3,000 vehicles per hour
  • 4 km additional lane on Emirates Road (speed limit 110 km/h)
  • Expected completion: Q2 2026

Nad Al Sheba 1, 3 and 4

  • 32 km of roads, 15 km of walkways and cycling tracks
  • Road links, pavements, and parking near schools, parks, mosques, and malls
  • Completion: Nad Al Sheba 1 by end of 2025, Nad Al Sheba 3 and 4 by Q1 2027

Al Warqa’a

  • Direct entry and exit from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road
  • Conversion of roundabouts to signalised intersections
  • 30% increase in Al Warqa’a 1 Street capacity
  • Travel time reduced by 80%, from 20 minutes to 3.5 minutes
  • Trip distance reduced from 5.7 km to 1.5 km
  • Serving 350,000+ residents
  • Completion: end of 2025

Wadi Al Amardi

  • 15 km of new roads, including a 4 km expansion of Tripoli Street
  • 10 km of paving works
  • 405 lighting poles
  • 1,000 roadside parking spaces
  • Travel distance cut from 5 km to 1 km
  • Serving 30,000+ residents
  • Completion: Q3 2026
