DEWA’s Hassyan Reverse Osmosis Project Reaches 78% Completion

Dubai, UAE — 15 August 2025: HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), inspected progress on the first phase of the Hassyan seawater desalination plant, now 78% complete. The AED 3.377 billion project, under the Independent Water Producer model, will produce 180 million imperial gallons per day upon full completion in Q1 2027.
The facility is one of the world’s largest seawater reverse osmosis (RO) plants and DEWA’s first IWP initiative. It supports Dubai’s Integrated Water Resources Management Strategy 2030, aiming for 100% of desalinated water to be produced using clean energy and waste heat by 2030.
By 2030, DEWA plans to increase its total desalination capacity to 735 million imperial gallons per day, with 240 million gallons from RO technology.
